Franco Deboni was born in Trieste in 1950 and graduated in Architecture from Venice University.
Under the guidance of Carlo Scarpa, Deboni started designing with glass, particularly lighting. He worked with Ferro-Lazzarini before going on to learn glassmaking under Albino Carrara, a Venetian glassmaker who had worked with Picasso and Cocteau.
Deboni turned to scholarship and is an internationally recognised authority on Venetian glass. He has worked as an expert for some of Italy's leading auction houses and acted as chief consultant to exhibitions both in Italy and the United States, he also acts as a consultant for many private and institutional collectors.
He is the author of several publications on the 20th century decorative arts including 'I Vetri Venini' ('The Glass of Venini'), which is considered to be the definitive work on Venini.
Wanting 'to do something for [himself],' Deboni returned to glassmaking in 1996.
